Warning: Sometimes Glam Makeovers Aren't So Glamorous

Hey!

So thankful you're all tuning in for today's blog post, and that you've made the transition with me to Sand & Pine Co. I feel like such a big girl, with a big girl business name and more mature pants! <-- I wanted to say, 'big girl' again but I felt like I was wearing that one out and I'm a little salty about Chris fattening me up with take-out. I digress...

So we've been super busy lately! Apart from the fact that we are generally busy with a bus load of children, we've also had so many fun things to do. One of my oldest, and dearest friends got married this past weekend up in Philadelphia, so the big guy (muahaha) and I took an adults-only trip. We got to wash our parts and put on pretty things and remind ourselves that there is life outside of Crocs and crockpots. We had the most fun. We were told.

How beautiful is that bride?! Can't believe my girl is married!

So I've been home for a bit now and I'm still the most tired person in Florida. This weekend coming up we'll be at the Florida/Georgia game (Go Gators!), followed by celebrating Halloween with the kiddos, A Bachelor/Bachelorette party for our friends, and then another awesome wedding! Somewhere in there we're going to have to get a ton of work done. One project I am so happy to be finishing up is the Glam Kitchen Reno I told you all about here.

Go ahead and catch up. I'll wait.

Hi again!

So before Chris and I merged our businesses and became Sand & Pine Co. his company was working on this townhouse in South Tampa. Some small scale renovations were done before he got there, but they weren't installed correctly (shotty tile work, mostly). Mainstay knocked down a wall, repaired dry wall, painted, tiled the entire floor, replaced base boards, etc. Chris and I were then hired to renovate the powder room, master bath, and kitchen. Both bathrooms were designed and renovated in a short period of time. The kitchen, on the other hand, turned out to be a pain in the rear.

Here is the kitchen before the backsplash botch:

This pic shows the green glass backsplash that was installed before we came in, and the grey floor tile Chris' crew installed:

Here is my original design board for the kitchen:

The townhouse is in downtown South Tampa, so it's on the smaller side and all of the dark color choices were doing nothing for it.

The plan:

  1. Paint existing base cabinets in the same grey color as the bathroom vanities (adding Valspar Silver Dust).

  2. Paint existing upper cabinets in a shade of white

  3. Replace all brushed hardware with something more glamorous (polished nickel, and glass).

  4. Remove green backsplash (added after the above photo was taken) and replace with mother-of-pearl

  5. Remove black granite and replace with white quartz (to match bathroom vanities).

  6. Replace double basin sink and faucet with single basin sink and chrome faucet

I painted the kitchen cabinets as planned and installed new hardware as planned. The homeowner found some glass tile she loved on sale and purchased that instead of the mother of pearl. Here are the cabinets painted and ready for counter-top and backsplash install:

When the counter tops were ready (this took a ridiculously long time. boo) the old counters were removed and OF COURSE we found mold. We found a lot of mold. Insurance was called, there was a lot of back and forth, and the cabinets needed to be removed and replaced so that our client and her daughter could live safely. It took a while and they were stuck living in a house with no kitchen. See what I mean about these renovations not always being so glamorous?

Our client was a trooper. We ended up ordering new cabinets in the same layout in all white. We went with the same hardware, same quartz *thank goodness* and same backsplash. Here is this beauty all done-up in her Sunday's best and ready for some home cookin':

What do you think about the all white, versus the two-toned look? I think the kitchen looks much bigger than before, and the white is so bright and airy! I'm obsessed with the World Market ceiling mounted chandelier, and Hobby Lobby hardware. This kitchen is sophisticated and girly, but most importantly it's mold free.

I can't wait to update ya'll on the other projects we have going on: the 5,600 sq ft. property in the country we are renovating, our own home projects, the top secret 12 acre property project, and a bunch of other fun before and afters you have yet to see!

Thank you for constantly reminding us how blessed we are by sharing the love. You bring us all the feels!

xoxo

Alyssa (and Chris, who is busy working and really has nothing to do with this blog).
