Our New Project: Teenage Bedroom Mood Board

Hey everyone, and Happy Monday!

We have so much going on over here. I know I promised you all Before and Afters of the house, one every week, but we keep adding projects and so everything is in middle stages!

All of the bedrooms in this house will be getting little tweaks for spring, so they aren't ready. The exterior of this house is in complete disarray. I grew a wild hair last month and pulled all of the plants out of the front garden so now they look like a post-apocalyptic wasteland. I do have plans to showcase the beautiful front porch, rather than hide it, so we'll be re-arranging the landscaping and adding color. The pool patio is basically done -- I even re-painted the girls' play kitchen that Chris' Mom and Dad made them years ago. They treat it like a target so we'll see how long it lasts looking polished. We're also finishing up the back deck today, which is our solution to the unattractive dead space back there that never gets used. We are also working on a logo for Sand & Pine Co. and our individual ventures (Sand Studios and Pine Properties) which we can't wait to debut!

As for client projects, we have many: bathrooms, drywall, tile flooring, etc. We are still chugging along at our flip project, and readying the property to break ground when the flip is finished. SO much going on, and when my head stops spinning momentarily I sit down and write blog posts (haha).

Today I want to talk to you about the next phase of the South Tampa Townhouse we renovated and decorated. We're going to be focusing on re-decorating this bedroom, and renovating the adjoined bathroom. Here is what the bedroom currently looks like:

As you can see, it's an awesome space for anyone, let alone a teenager. Our goal for this space is to create a more grown-up room for a more grown-up girl. She is the perfect mix of girly and tough in all the ways that count, so we want to mirror her personality in the design of her bedroom. The downstairs of the home has been given an Urban-Glam makeover, and so the upstairs will have the same feel, with a few minor tweaks in Alex's room to reflect her age. I was told to work with the existing furniture, so the only pieces I have to source are nightstands, a chair for her desk, and possibly a bench for the end of the bed (depending on space and final layout). As far as decor is concerned, I want to add lots of color, texture, and bold metallics. We plan to add boldly colored closet doors with not-so-typical hardware, a new light fixture, and some roman shades for a sophisticated solution to the amount of light that pours in. I'm going to paint the existing desk to add some contrast against the bed frame.

Here is the first design board:

I am so excited to see this project evolve, and to get started on the adjoined bathroom renovation! Still have to get in there and take measurements, brainstorm, etc. but I'm having a lot of fun with whimsy, which you rarely get to mess around with when designing for adults.

What do you think about the mood board? Picture this room with some shiny hanging lanterns, plant holders, fuzzy blankets, and brightly colored/ modern artwork. I think I'd want to sleep there! How about you?

xoxo
