Master Bathroom Remodel: Mirror Challenge

Hey everyone!

Hope you all had a beautiful Easter, and are enjoying these little hints of spring (mixed with soul crushing random snow storms) as much as I am!

I recently took a trip down to Florida to check out some newly finished projects and was able to see them in person, take photographs, etc. One in particular came out great but presented some design challenges right from the beginning.

Here is what it looked like before we got started:

As you can see, the client seriously lacked storage space in addition to all the funky stuff happening that we needed to tackle. She knew she wanted the modern farmhouse look, with patterned floor tile. She also told me she wanted to close in the door next to her vanity, and extend the cabinets all the way over. I loved the thought of giving her more storage, but my challenge was to keep her plumbing where it was and maintain some symmetry. I sketched out her vanity a bunch of times, in several different configurations, and just couldn't make the length make sense with the plumbing located all the way on the right hand side. As a solution, rather than a bunch of small, expensive mirrors, I sketched out a big old mirror wall grid.

Here is what I sent the client:

This would make the length of the vanity make more sense compared to the height of the ceilings, would solve the asymmetry problem with the plumbing, and would be pretty bad ass besides.

After countertops were installed the trim was mapped out, installed, caulked and (over) painted, and then mirrors were ordered to match the open spaces and installed.

Here is the room while the trim was going in:

Chris and his crew made my vision come to life and I absolutely love the way it turned out! The ceiling height windows bounce so much light around, softening the moody cabinets, dark trim, tile, and tub. What do you think of the finished product??

Do you have an awkward space that you can't make sense of? That's one of my favorite challenges as a designer, and one of the reasons you might want to hire someone! If you want to see some videos of this space check it out on IG reels or Tik Tok.

I'm looking forward to sharing some of my most recent decoration projects with you! It's funny, but it seems like the styles I work with come in waves. I recently had a bunch of transitional clients, and now I have a few who are more Country/Southern inspired. It's so much fun bouncing around and experimenting with new looks!

Thank you all for your constant support, and the warm welcome I've received since I've been back in Pennsylvania. I'm so excited to show you what I've been working on!

xoxo

Alyssa
