How To Prep, Paint, and Antique Your Kitchen Cabinets the Right Way

Hey everyone!

Monday night I posted a couple of 'after' pictures of Kellyanne and Brandon's kitchen makeover. It took a few twelve-hour-days to get it done, and now my body has been paying the price. I've been stuck on the floor with frozen organic sweet potatoes permanently attached to my back and neck, but I'm finally ready to sit erect and tell you folks all about the process.

My friends decided that while planning a 200 guest wedding they should also plan some major renovations, construction projects, adopt another dog, etc. They started looking for quotes to see what it would cost to change their kitchen cabinets and were pretty shocked when the prices were all above $10k. Enter moi.

The cabinets that were in the kitchen were great in every way but stain: they were tall, nicely shaped with some detail, placed well, and wrapped with crown molding. There was no need to change them other than the fact that they were a bizarre color choice for the space and didn't compliment the granite, back-splash, or flooring that was there. I did a little research and decided that I'd be able to paint the cabinets for Kelly and Brandon, and do so in a way that they'd remain durable and look great for a long time.

This blog post today is going to be a detailed tutorial about the process I chose. Before deciding how to proceed I read a LOT of articles, watched a ton of videos, and then chose the best methods and tools for me. There are a few different ways to paint a kitchen, but based on the research I've done achieving a professional looking result is both time consuming and exhausting no matter how you proceed. If you want to achieve a similar result, you're going to have to put in some major elbow grease and suck it up. I'm currently sucking it up in the form of crying and complaining about my back. Cheers.
