Antique Inspired Kitchen Reno

Hello everyone!

Today I want to talk to you about a kitchen renovation we completed where the inspiration was the homeowner's antique collection. They had just purchased their home, did some painting, and then wanted their floors done. They hired us to replace their existing carpet and tile with dark wood-look tile that they loved. When we completed that work they hired us to renovate their kitchen!

Here is a picture of their living room, which inspired their kitchen design:

Client Must Haves for Design:

1. White shaker cabinets

2. Warm granite countertops with lots of beige and brown

3. Hood range over the stove

4. In-cabinet microwave

5. White subway tile

Mood Board:

My plan for this kitchen was to add antique brass hardware and fixtures. Not only is this a great choice in metallic for 2020, but it also pays tribute to the past. We used a warm, sand colored grout for the subway tile, and added some marble shelves above the bar so our client could retain as much counter space as possible.

We also needed to address their layout. It was very cramped, had dropped ceilings and fluorescent lighting, and left a lot to be desired in the storage/ counterspace/ lighting departments.

The Plan:

1. Knock down the wall dividing kitchen and dining room.

2. Widen the kitchen footprint, just a stitch.

3. Tweak layout to adjust for more counter space.

4. Add pantry for storage and symmetry.

5. Create eat-in bar for entertaining.

6. Remove drop ceiling, fix drywall, add recessed lighting.

7. Add pendant lights to bar area, and a light above the kitchen sink.

8. Shelving above bar, instead of cabinets, for more usable counter space.
