6 Easy Ways to Add Character to an Apartment

Hi Everyone! I'm so excited to write this post today. As most of you know, Vale and I have been in the throws of moving. It's always a blast, she says with heavy sarcasm. Since I became pregnant with my now two year old daughter I've moved seven times (that's right) and I am exhausted. My kid has completely adapted to this nomadic lifestyle of airplanes and suitcases, but she and I are ready to plant some roots and make breakfast in the same dwelling for a few years.

#Nesting, as many of you mothers know, is the overwhelming urge to prepare for your baby while you're pregnant. Most moms want to organize the house, clean like maniacs, and generally set up shop, so to speak, for their little bundle of joy. Towards the end of my pregnancy I knew I was going to have to pack up and leave at any moment, so despite being incredibly organized I never got to set up a normal nursery, or prepare a zillion freezer meals, or NEST.

Here I am, two years after Valen was born, nesting. I didn't even move into this place until I knew I'd have time to hang some shtuff (yes, shtuff -- can't curse anymore with parrot-esque toddler running around) up on the walls. My apartment has a decent amount of space, especially of the storage variety, but it's seriously lacking in character. We all know how much I love my fricken character. I've accumulated tons of decor over the years. The last few places I lived in had 2,000+ sq. ft. and so this move was a major downsizing fiasco. My garage is filled to the brim with for-sale furniture/decor. You'd think it would be great having so much to work with, but picking and choosing what stays, what goes, trying to make LARGE furniture fit in a small space, all while adding some color and style in a very small window of time was no easy task. I have some fun blog posts coming up regarding all of the challenges I faced decorating this space (in a day), but today we're going to talk about how to add character when you're renting!
